Well, so much has been happening it's hard to know where to start this time!
The Ruth & Naomi musical proved to be an outstanding success with a standing ovation on opening night (I wasn't there for the 2nd evening but reports are that the audience were just as appreciative) and almost full to capacity. The whole team worked so hard on this project, and much credit should be given to Brenda Taylor (who wrote the musical), Lesley Vaughan who managed the project, Claudia Schaff (director) and the musicians, costume makers, prop people, make up artists, the list could go on forever... in my opinion the whole project felt like a test for the church to see if we were willing to work as one complete unit, putting aside any differences, being humble and submitting where needed. I think we all learned so much and i'm so proud of all who took part.
I'm increasing receiving emails from other musicians and composers asking me if I would mind listening to their work and offering advice/feedback and as a result have been 'meeting' some lovely new people online, and discovering new music. I'm on twitter by the way now (keridegg_music) which i'm starting to get the hang of, but I still feel like some creepy stalker when I choose to 'follow' someone :s
I attended Nottingham saxweekend (
www.saxday.co.uk) mid March which was unbelievably brilliant; meeting new people, catching up with others you've met at previous events, discovering new music, some of the best tutors in the UK (the list is endless). I took part in a masterclass where I played one of my recent compositions 'Fuerza tranquilla' and picked up valuable advice, plus very favourable reactions to the piece itself (one lady was so choked up she couldn't speak which was so touching and actually nearly started me blubbing but THAT it what it's all about, and THAT'S why I choose to write, there has to be an emotional connection of some sort).
Equinox has been perparing for a number of concerts and we recently performed alongside UK saxophonist Christian Forshaw and soprano Natalie Clifton-Griffith (classic fm etc) reports back were very favourable indeed and it was lovely to experience the change in dimension by the addition of the vocal element. We are next appearing at 'Sarah Markhams birthday bash' 24th April, and then at the Winding wheel (Chesterfield) with Masson Mills brass band.
Composition projects are a little hit and miss with the children being off school for two weeks, but I'm intending to complete 2 started projects in the next few weeks. Reports are coming trickling in that various groups/players have recently won festival competitions etc and have played of my pieces, however all credit is due to the performers here, well done! 'Cross Island' (cello/piano duo New York) have taken a keen interest in my pieces and are eager for me to arrange one or two of my others that may sound good on this medium for concert performances this year.
Anyway, that's enough waffle for now, i'll be back soon,
Keri
